This is my 37th Combined Paintingthat I created for Chinese Classical Poetry, It is also my 520th painting since 2003 and Also, it is the 50th(76th) painting (practice) that I have created in 2010.

I wanted to create a new painting to match a Chinese classical poem Chi Le Ge -- A Song of the Chi Le Grassland by the Yin Shan Mountains.

But, I did not know what the Yinshan Mountains looks like and what kind of mountains it is. So, I checked much data about it and about grassland.

The more I read, the more I felt that maybe I should paint it with the Gouaches or Oil style, because I did not really find a way to paint it with Chinese Painting style. :-)

Anyway, I still created it with Chinese style Wednesday night. I did not think that I have expresses the quality of the grassland and the mountains.

So, I wanted to create a new one. After putting a piece of paper on the desk for a few days, I could not paint it out for I did not know how to express the grass... instead of painting, I re-translated the poem and re-wrote the music since I had created a piece of music for the poem in Oct, 2005.

During the time, my mind did not stop to imagine... :-) Even, I dreamed that I walked and painted on some grassland... :-) I was imagining how to use the color and the brushers to express the grass in my dream ... :-)

I opened my eyes with the dream Sunday morning. When I was singing with my own music, I suddenly had the feeling to paint. Immediately, I stopped my music work and went to my desk to paint. Quickly, I completed it with my singing in my mouth; then, when the color was waiting to dry, I played my music and to sing the poem...

I did not satisfy it after I completed it for I felt it was too peaceful and lacked something moving on it. Even though I have painted some birds and sheep over there, I still felt lack something on the painting.

Until Monday night, before sending my weekly letter to you, I suddenly felt that I should paint something, such as a tree or some flowers or a bird on the too peaceful grassland, then, I painted the flowers near and the yurts far away... Now, I do feel it seems like better. :-)

For helping you to understand the Chinese characters, I have explained it and sang it in Chinese and in English. You can hit the links over or any Chinese Character below to find it in the Chinese Language Column. :-)

The Main Meaning of the Poem

Chi Le Song

Folk of Southern and Northern Dynasties
( 420 -589)

Chi Le plain,
lies by the Yinshan Mountains,
the sky is like dome yurt,
envelop the earth.

The heaven is vast and hazy,
the wilds is boundless.
When the wind blows the grass bending low,
the cattle is appeared there...
