Hi, friends, have you been to China? China is a poetic country. In our daily life, we often use some lines as usual sentences to make our language is more implicative and easy to understand.

For example, when we say something just reveals a little part, the most part of it has been hidden or has not been showed, we often say: Xiao He Cai Lu Jianjian Jiao -- A little lotus just reveals   out of the water, the most part of it has not opened.

Anyway, when people use this sentence naturally, many of them do not know that they are quoting a line that is from a little Chinese classical poem Xiao Chi -- A little Pool by Song Dynasty((960 - 1279) poet Yang Wangli(1127 - 1206).

This is a very little poem that has written out a very interesting small snatch in a beautiful summer day:

A peaceful mouth of the spring cherishes the little streamlet, and let her flowing into the pool quietly,
The tree shade is reflecting in the water, it seems like it loves the soft view in sunshine.A little leaf of a lotus just extends out of the water. Before it has opened her body,   one dragonfly has stood on it early...

Every line is just a picture, so when I read it, I had a very strong feeling that I should paint a new picture of the water lilies in the water and dragonfly over the flowers. :-)

So, I did it this weekend -- Sep 4 and Sep 5, 2010; and also, I had created a piece of music to match it in July 23, 2006.

I really hope that my effort will be some of help with you to learn Chinese culture and language.

MAIN MEANING OF THE POEM

A Little Pool

By Yang Wangli (Song Dynasty)

A peaceful mouth of the spring
cherishes the small streamlet,
The tree shade reflects in the water,
it loves the view in the sunshine.
A little lotus just grows out of the water,
One dragonfly has stood on it early...
