Something Behind the Cooking Learning... Shirley's 82nd Friendly Greeting -- Sun, March 25, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? Have you had a good week? I do hope you are well and have a relaxed and easy weekend.
Days ago a fire happened on the first floor of our office building in the restaurant. For keeping our company in a safe way, the restaurant has been stopped most of its business. Meanwhile the people in the company have lost the place to have their lunch as usual.
The administration office has ordered a room in another restaurant for several company managers. I still keep walking back home to have my lunch as long as time allows. Since I handed my last researching report, I don't need to be in my office in the weekend or stay there for 15 to 18 hours from the dark morning until the dark night. So, instead of driving, I often have a walk in the avenues to walk among the green trees and beautiful flowers in the spring season. One side, to add some exercise time for the morning running is too short; the other side, I want to cook in person.
Since my son went abroad in 2002, my eating way has changed quite simple. When I had to work on something tightly, I just ordered some food from some restaurant via a phone call.
However, one midnight, an extra uncomfortable feeling made me vomit the whole of the food in my stomach. That really made me wanting to cook by myself. Then, during my travel in the Chinese New Year's time, when I sat among my family to eat the first lunch, an especially warm feeling came into my heart. And I suddenly felt that I have had a family, and the warm feeling has really made me want to have a real family. So, now I want to prepare for the dream even though I have not known where the other one is yet.
Anyway, I must learn to do something to make myself to be a phoenix tree at the first. Then, maybe another phoenix in my dream would fly to me for the sweet smell from the beautiful phoenix tree?
I had cooked for my son for 15 years before he went abroad. There was not any family around me since he was 46 days old. I just read a book to learn what I should cook for him in his different growing up time. I remember when he was 3 months old, I fed him to eat yolk for the first time, he even did not know how to eat things from a spoon. For knowing my duty clear, I took my ID with me everywhere for I wanted people to know who I was, where I lived and to feed my baby in case any accident happened to me. Cooking was really the most important thing for me at that time indeed.
Now, I have forgotten most of the cooking ways that I had learned, I do not think it is difficult more than painting and singing. So, I am confident of myself becoming a good chef soon. Saturday evening, I cooked my first dumpling won ton for my vocal music teacher; she did enjoy it and said the taste was good.
Do you enjoy eating and cooking? What is your favorite food?

Shirley Created Art -- Chinese Xieyi 0129: Golden Autumn
This week, I drafted 3 pictures, but, my art teacher still wanted to train my abilities of composition of a picture and asked me to think how to extend this picture to be many the other kinds of pictures. After I completed it, my teacher thought that I have had a good ability to use my brushes and colors. My birds painting is good, but the leave, that is near the bird, is a faulty stroke in painting, the structure below part is a little bit loose. So, I was given 85 marks. Also, my teacher is thinking of directing me to create a new and long picture and asked me to paint at least 50 meters in 2007. It is not easy, but it will be a funny and an enjoyable job. Do you think so?

Shirly Sung China(Hubei) Folk Song--053: Honghu Shui, Lang Da Lang -- Wave After Wave in the Red Lake ( Opera? The Red Army In the Red Lake)
This song is from a famous Chinese opera, that was created by Hubei Experiment Opera Group, to tell a story about Red Amy in the 30's in the Red Lake. As soon as it was played in 1958 in Beijing, the songs in it were popular in China. In 1961, the opera was adapted to be a movie and the songs changed more popular. This one is the best welcomed so that Mr. Zhou Enlai, the former premier of China, was just a fan of this song. Between 1966 to 1976, during the Culture Revolution, with thousands and thousands musical works together, this song, the opera and the movie were forbidden to be sung and played. Until the tragedy was finished in China and in 1978, they got their new lives. Saturday evening, my teacher asked me to sing it and I did not need to use a music book for I did remember its tone and lyrics clear.

Chinese Classical Poem --0079 & Shirley Created Music-0069: Zen Hua Qing -- To Mr. Hua
I guess that most people enjoy music. Anyway, have you written anything to describe the beautiful of a piece of music? What will you write if you admire a piece of music? This little poem by Tang Dynasty (A. D. 618 ? A.D. 907) poet Du Fu ( A.D. 712 ? A.D.770 ) is just one to describe what beautiful the music was from Mr. Hua's house with a very artistic style. As usual, I have created a piece of music to match it and hope you enjoy it.

Shirley's Chinese Calligraphy: Running Regular Script -- 005
This is my 5th Chinese Calligraphy that I wrote as a practice Monday night. I do enjoy writing Chinese Calligraphy, for I really enjoy its wonderful feature as an art. So, since I came back from my Chinese New Year's traveling, I have been keeping writing as soon as I can, at least to match every Classical Poem that I have to introduce weekly. This one is just the handwriting of the poem over and hope both of them can support each other and to be a help to your Chinese learning.

About Shirley's World "
This letter is sent from my own personal web site, Shirley's World, automatically. It is a long time that I wanted to write something to introduce it and let you know why I set up this web site. Who are its target users, what I am pursuing, the structure of the web site and so on. After working for 1 year and 10 months, now, it can support people to work on it at any time from any place. It has had 856 regular users from 35 countries and some volunteers to work for it. The list on the left page of www.google.cn and www.google.com is being moved up. So, if you are a native English speaker friend and be interested in Chinese culture and language, you are welcomed to join my work as a volunteer. Maybe we can create something positive, meaningful and helpful together, to help the others and to improve ourselves at the same time? As far as the future of the web site and the value of our work, it is relying on your confidence in me and in yourself. Let us imagine and see it. Ok?
