Shirley's Essays: Lives - 010: Growing up with the China (Mainland) Securities Market Together --01

Since February 27 -- all of the stock markets in the world were dropped down a lot, I have received some letters from friends to ask something about Chinese Securities Market.

My answer was, that this was just a regular adjusting after the Chinese stock market had risen for about 1 year. Since the Chinese economy is developing in a very good situation, as a reflection of the Chinese economy, it will not have a reason to drop for a long time. So, it will re-raise after this adjustment.

Anyway, the questions from friends gave me an idea to introduce some thing about China's securities market with some way, since I have been working in this field since 1992 and the two Stock Exchanges in Shenzhen and Shanghai were found in Oct, 1990.

So, in fact, I have been growing up with the China's stock market together, since I was an employee of the first Chinese securities consultation company in 1992, after that I was an employee of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1993. Later on I was sent to take part in the work to found one of the most important Chinese securities newspaper offices, that was appointed to publish the first hand information of the listed and fund companies by the government. In 1999, my department in the newspaper office changed to be a network company. In 2002, our company was combined and now we have become a top multimedia Securities Information Company in China.

Can you imagine? In 1992, Shenzhen Stock Exchange had only 6 stocks and Shanghai Stock Exchange had only 8 stocks. After the hard working for 16 years, right now, both of them have had 1906 securities, and more and more exchange categories. Below is the listed securities data in China mainland securities market on March 9, 2007:

The amount of the listed securities in Chinese Securities Market: 1906
The amount of the listed securities in Shanghai Stock Exchange: 1093
The amount of the listed securities in Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 813

Stocks: 1543
A Share: 1434
A Share (listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange): 838
A Share (listed in Shenzhen Stock Exchange): 596
B Share: 109
B Share (listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange): 54
B Share (listed in Shenzhen Stock Exchange): 55

Fund: 331

Bond: 105
Bond (listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange): 153
Bond (listed in Shenzhen Stock Exchange): 105

Ticket: 33
Ticket (listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange): 22
Ticket (listed in Shenzhen Stock Exchange): 11

A share is the stock that can be exchanged with RMB (Chinese money) in both of the Stock Exchanges and it is for the mainland investors to trade.

B share is the stock that can be exchanged with USD or HKD and it is for the foreign investors to trade.

One thing that you have to make sure that which Stock Exchange you are working on. If you are trading B share in Shanghai Stock Exchange, you have to use USD; if you are trading B share in Shenzhen Stock Exchange, you have to work with HKD.

Today, I would like to give you a simple introduce of the listed securities in China's Securities market. I hope it is a little bit help for you to know something about China and Chinese securities market since it is standing the duty as the weatherglass of Chinese economy. Later I will introduce something more for you. Ok?

This weekend, I also offered you some new vocabulary about securities in Chinese for you and hope it is a little bit help for you to learn Chinese language.
