My Hong Kong Traveling Diary--003: One of Jokes That I Made

In Hong Kong, the hotel that I stayed at had an electric kettle in every room rather than a minibar that most star rated hotels have in Mainland China. When I first went into my room, the kettle worked well, but that night it didn¡¯t seem to work at all. I guessed that maybe there was a problem with the plug, so I tried using the one that my computer was connected to. I did not dare go to sleep because I was scared that the kettle might boil dry and become a danger to the hotel; however, nothing happened and the water was still cold after 2 hours¡ I didn¡¯t sleep until 1:00 am.

No way! I asked a woman attendant on the floor next morning and she thought that maybe the kettle didn¡¯t work, and so soon changed it for another one. However, that one didn¡¯t work either.
Was this one also faulty? Neither of us believed that, so once more she tried to find the reason that it didn¡¯t work. Suddenly she shouted, Wow, now I know why!¡± Can you guess the reason? I had plugged in the reading lamp instead of the kettle, so how could it work? Maybe you will ask, since I plugged in the reading lamp, why didn¡¯t I notice it when it was turned on? The lamp was on the windowsill and the curtain blocked the light¡

Both of us could not help but laugh together and I had to say sorry to her many times...

Ha, this is one of the funny things that happened to me in Hong Kong. Do you think it¡¯s funny?
